Jacob,

I'm glad you linked to this. I've actually shown you the verse he quotes in Eccl 3:11.

From Steve's blog: According to Scripture, God has, “set eternity in the hearts of men” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

I like the way this verse puts it. It is a little clearer than the King James version.

How do you reconsile this with the notion that we do not have a divine nature within us?

I look forward to hearing your response.

Pat, I haven't given any real deep study to this verse, but I would say that God has made man as an eternal being. We are created, that is we are not eternal or divine by nature in the same sense that God is. I believe Scripture teaches that God is the uncreated creator. This is one of the main differences between man and God. Man is eternal from the time he is created on forward, but he is not eternal like God.

Man either will spend his eternity in Heaven or in Hell depending on if they trus in the Lord Jesus alone for their salvation. That is what I believe the Bible to teach.

You see. I espescially like where this says he placed eternity. In our hearts. Where we feel the spirit whispering to us.

We are divine because God is the father of our spirits. That divine spark is in every man. No matter how hard men here on earth try to suppress who they are, children of God, they are at the foundation of their soul, His children.

That spark is what allows the most base of humans to turn his life to Christ. Because when he feels the spirit in his chest he can choose to follow that still small voice. A voice that at the center of his being, he has heard before.

But Man, the flesh, is the enemy of god. Carnal. Desiring self satisfaction. That man is the man that Romans 3 is talking about.

Galatians 5 also talks about this dual nature that we have.

As usual you use passages that talk about Christians and try to apply them to all mannkind both lost and saved.

Galatians talks about the Christians struggle against the flesh. The Christian has a new nature because of the Spirit of God coming into their life when they trusted in Christ, and they still have to wage war against their old nature until the day they die.

This does not refer to all people. Apart from Christ their are not two natures at war their is just the flesh that consumes the person and the person loves his sin. Again this is why the issue of Total Depravity is so important.

We are not all children of God, the Bible clearly says that people who are not in Christ are of their Father the devil.

You believe that God has sex with his wife in heaven and creates spirit babies and that is what we all are a product of. Of course this is not the God of the Bible, as I have pointed out time and again.

God created man to be an eternal being, but we are still created unlike God who is uncreated.
